Ford Fusion Fuel Issues
Hello! I am hoping someone can help me out because I can not figure out why this is happening! So I have a 2014 Ford Fusion Titanium and when I bought it everything was fine up until a couple months ago. What it is doing is when I get in and push the button to start it, it starts up fine but as soon as I put it into a gear the RPM's start going crazy and the car starts to shake like it is starving for fuel and then the motor turns off, leaving the electronics still on in the car. in order to start it back up I have to put it in neutral or park and push the button again. When I push the button, it turns over but takes a good 5-7 seconds to start back up. I would really like it get it fixed before it causes more problems but everywhere I have taken it to get it looked at, they can not get it to do what it is doing and since the check engine light doesn't always come on when it happens they can't do anything for me.
What ever is going on is affected by the temp when cold and that may be why finding anything when it is warmed up doesn't show anything.
Are you taking your vehicle to a dealership?
I ask this because they should have the training ,access to the info and tools to find this problem. Maybe there is a shortage there, don't know.

I wasn't planning on taking it to the dealership because it can get a little pricey but it sounds like that is what I am going to have to do. I will say that it will not shake and shut off when the motor is cold. what I mean by that is it will act up after the first initial warm up drive.
Also when the check engine light comes on occasionally, it is the same code that comes up. I can't remember what code it is but I do know it says fuel rail pressure too high. I have changed the high pressure fuel sensor but that did not fix it.
Since you knew how to replace the one pressure sensor, maybe you might be able to look at the real problem.
Hi pressure fuel injection is controlled by a volume controlled solenoid on the hi pressure fuel pump. That is what determines the fuel pressure. The PCM controls that solenoid based on info from the sensor. Let us know how you make out with this , thanks.

I didn't see you say what engine you have so this may not be applicable, however I have seen the high pressure fuel pump piston rollers fail causing strange fuel pressure issues. I would remove the high pressure fuel pump, use a magnetic tool to lift the piston out and inspect it for any wear on the piston, pump and cam lobe.
