Looks like a yellow colored "top" with an o-ring at the soft end. Send it to me. I can use it to seal fill tubes when I change transmissions.

All it means is that the transmission in your car has been replaced some time in the past. That part closes the dipstick fill tube and is pushed inside when the dipstick is re inserted to the new /rebuilt trans. Nothing to worry about.

Hey Bushman,

Very strange but the very same thing happened to me with my (one owner) 1982 F-150. The gizmo looked like the "joy stick" control on a kitchen faucet. I looked and looked in my manuals but could not find anything like this in the pictures. Oh well, I ended up driving it for another 150,000 miles without any problems.

If you happen to find out what this part is, I would sure like to know because it has been bugging me for the last twenty years.

That yellow piece you are referring to is refered to as a "lollypop" by the people that work on the line your trans came from. As stated above it plugs the hole in the case that the dipstick tubs goes into. Anyone with 4R70 or 4R75 trans from any vehicle will find the part in the pan when doing the first fluid change. At the assembly plant, they simply push the dipstick tube in forcing the lollypop into the pan. Finding this piece does not mean you trans was replaced. What it means is that if you found it, most likley it was that transmissions first fluid change, unless someone simply didn't know what it was and left it in the pan on a previous fluid change.
