Default V6 Starter Problems

I have a 2003 Mustang with a V6 and have been trying to figure out my starter problems. I have replaced the OE starter with a rebuilt starter and have installed. The starter only spins when the ignition is engaged. I took the starter back to the parts store and they tested it and concluded that the starter is good. I re-installed and the same problem occured.

I think the pinion gear is spinning on the shaft since I can not see any other reason for this to be happening.

Any other suggestions short of returning to the parts store and exchanging the starter for another?

Jeff

Problem solved.

I spoke with the parts store manager and he said to return the starter as defective whether it tested good or not. Turns out the pinion gear was spinning on the starter shaft. I exchanged the starter and the new one works just fine.

Thanks.
