my 1996 ranger with 220000 miles on it sounds like a desile when it ideals just wondering if any one new what this sound could be it is a gas engine 2.3 litter manual tranny. When I give it gas it sounds normal other than the squekeee power sterring pump. It started this sound after the oil was changed- oil level is correct 5-30 mobil one extended life oil Thanks for you imput much appreciated this is a cool web-site

 

Does it sounds like the hydraulic lifters are pumping out? Excessive tappet/cam followersound/s.. Might not be a bad idea to check foradequate oil pressure with a mechanical gauge installed on an engine/pump with 220K.. A mechanical gauge can be installed in the oil sender unit port/hole for a sample pressure.. An engine rattle and oil pressure are the first thing to come to mind at your mileage, and more so being that the rattle silences just off idle or low RPM.. Even more 'suspect' since the noise wasn't there prior to the change?Noises are always hard to diagnose at the forum level, and if this doen't seem like the sound, try and describe it in more detail... Thanks for your imput sounds like you really understand engines. I appreciate it. The oil pressure gage is above the middle of the gauge. I will listen for a more detailed noise thanks again.

 

Ok so I stuck my head under my ranger and the sound is either coming from the rear of the engine or from the front of the manual tranny. some times the tranny sqeekes. I had pep boys replace the cluch a month ago and they broke the driver side motor mount. they say they dint but I was looking at the other tranny jobs they were doing and they were not supporting the engine when the tranny was dissconected. I am not a proffesinal like Hayapower but I know you are supposed to support the engine while the tranny is out. hope this helps guys thanks for the imput. this is an awsome forum!!!!!!!!!!!!
