Default 2003 ranger issue

Hi all ! I have an ongoing problem with my 2003 Ranger with just 60,000 miles. Many times I have started it up.....driven somewhere and left for an hour or so and when I come back it will not start. Nothing, doesn't even turn over. I've had my mechanic look at it and he said he thought it might be the key and asked if I had a spare. I tried the spare and it worked ! About a week ago I took it to the park with my bike in the bed and when I came back from the ride it did NOTHING. I had the original key with me.....and it started the truck. I brought it back to my mechanic and he is 'stumped' ! Any idea guys ??? It's VERY FRUSTRATING and I'm afraid to drive it anywhere for fear it won't start if I park it. Thanks !

If you have 2 working keys,, you can purchase and code addl keys yourself , up to 8 keys.

Keys can lose their coding if exposed to high magnetic fields. There could also be something going on with your vehicle's anti-theft system.

I would try the extra key thing first..
