Default 2006 Ranger hard to start

2006 Ranger has to turn over for a long time before it will start. Once it starts it runs fine, but some times I think it will never start. I just replaced the idle air control valve. It is a 2.3 liter engine. Any ideas on where to start will be greatly appreciated.

For a start, fuel pressure/flow should be checked. Try cycling the key several times before cranking to see if the engine starts any easier. How well has the vehicle been maintained? Old worn out ignition parts should be replaced.

Tried the key on and off a few times and that didn’t help. Sometimes it does fire right up and sometimes takes forever to start. Plugs are relatively new. It doesn’t have a check engine light on. Any help is appreciated.

I would still check fuel pressure.

Hi,
The most common causes that hinders normal starting operation of your Ranger are dead key fob battery, dead 12v battery, corrosion on battery terminals, bad alternator, clogged fuel filter, broken starter, blown fuse, empty gas tank, immobilizer error or any fault in the electrical system.
