Default Door Lock Problem or Key Problem?

Hey guys (and gals),

I've got a '99 Ranger, and slowly but surely they keys have stopped unlocking the doors. I used to be able to go to the passengers side and unlock the door, now even that doesn't work. It's not weather related (i.e. frozen locks) or anything like that. It just seems like over time either the key has worn down, or the lock cylinder, and now the tumblers aren't being actuated soI can't turn the key in the lock.

If anyone else has had this experience what do I need to do, just get new keys cut or get new lock cylinders?

Thanks,

Gary

Probably the first thing I'd try would be a graphite product like 'lock ease'ect. and see if they free up.. If not, you should be able to get a new key punched by your VIN at the dealer to elliminate the worn key possibility/theory but 'should' affect the ignition as well if that were the case.. If nothing works than a complete lock kit for the truck is an option and isn't too bad to install......

Our 99 Ranger shop truck experienced this and merely need to spray inside lock with pb blaster and white litium grease and works fine now.

S/D's do it a lot as well... The lock cylinder slides into the door handle assembly and the brass bars aren't sealed off at all from the elements, easily collect dirt and jamb/stick...
