Default Electrical problem

OK. where to begin...
Yesterday while I was driving my alternator light came on and my battery indicator was showing a highly excessive charge. Took the car to the mechanic and on the drive over the reverse problem happened, battery was indicating an undercharge (which it is still currently doing). Mechanic ran a diagnostic and found that the alternator was only putting out 2.2 amps...ok so bad alternator right? Replaced the alternator when I got home, yet still no fix. The alternator truly was bad, you could hear a grinding noise when I turned the pully on the alternator. So this is where I am stuck...new alternator, good battery, good wires, no blown fuses...yet battery still will not charge!

ugh, and idears[]

I think if it was showing a highly excessive charge it would have blown a fuse .[hr]Check the voltage at the alternator while running again if it is good the hot wire back to the battery may be shorted or have a blown fuse or fuseable link.[hr]Also be shure to check the fuse's under the hood in the power distrubition box over the wheel well.

weeeee fixed it!! found 2 blown fuses...one in the relay box & one inside the cab. What i think happened was the voltage spike blew a fuse which kinda froze everything on the dash, indicating that the batt wasnt charging...ne who, thanks for the help!

by the way im nick, new to the board...hope to get involved!

I am having the problem with my 1990 Ford Ranger with 2.9. What fuses did you replace?
