hi guys.
i have a 1997 ford ranger XLT with a 4.0L, and the truck itself has like 190,000 miles on it. My dad and uncle got a 1998 explorer motor with 47000 miles,also 4.0L,on it and put it in my truck, since then the flywheel has broken 3 times around the center of it and ive fixed it 3 times already & its broken again. does anyone have any knowledge of what could be doin this? starter does turn over.the first time it went like a 2 months without breakin then the 2nd time it went a month or so.and the third time it went a WEEK.. and weve put well over a thousand dollars in it.. i called a truck mechanicshop and they say they think im puttin on the wrong starter, they were supposed tocall me back but, never have..can someone help me out PLEASE??

 

i would think its that the wheel isn't alined right and its braking cux its off center but you'll going to have to find a better mechanic

 

hi,there could be a couple of probles with this.the flywheel when put in isnt torque peoperly over torquing will crack the flywheel eventually braking over time.or an incorrcet shim placement or no shim placement on the flywheel.the starter drive or gear could be defective jamming and breaking the flywheel.or the starter isnt put in properly-meaning its out of alignment also binding then breaking the flywheel.also make sure the starter is disengaging from the flywheel as well......
