Default Idling problem

I have a 94 Ranger with a 4.0 and i am having problems with idling. When i start my truck up it rev's good for 10 seconds, then almost dies, just before it seems like it is going to die it revs back up to normal. Also, after making a long drive sustaining about 75 on the expressway, and i come to a stop at a stop sign the engine idles very poorly (sounds as if its gunna die), if i switch to neutral while at the stop sign the engine will return to idling normally. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas what is the problem. I believe it to be a sensor, that isn't compensating fuel or something when the engine is either cold/hot. I have plenty of coolant, if anyone things that could be a suggestion to check. I believe the 94 is ODB 1 system, which means that i should be able to pull the codes off of it, but i wouldn't know wut they mean anyways. The check engine light has been on for 2 yrs now, last i checked it was an oxygen sensor on the exhaust.

Thanx for all replies.

it wont have anything to do with the clutch. i would say its somethin with the fuel system so i would run something. i would check the plugs first then i would check injectors. try running some injector cleaner, not the 97 cent stuff but some of the stuff that costs 4-6 bucks or so. also start lookin at the o2 sensors, mass air flow sensor, and the cat to see if that is plugged. my g/f has a tiburon and the mass air flow sensor was dirty and it was chugging and not idling and that is what was wrong. good luck. also try running some high octane fuel through it like 93 or something that has alot of alcohol in it. try running ethanol through it, i dont know if its by you or not but that will work. just make sure if you put ethanol in you arent putting in e85 because that stuff will ruin your sensors and make your truck run like crap.
