Default Idling trouble '03 Ranger 4.0 liter

Got an email from my wifethis morningsaying: The truck was goofy this morning. I started it, but it "kilt" on me twice before putting it in gear.

Had to get to school, so I put in drive and gave a little gas to keep it going, then used neutral when I would have to stop so it wouldn't kill.

Got to school. Turned it off. Then started it again. It did start, but it is idling funny.Any help would be appreciated my first thought is Throttle Positioning Sensor. Other ideas would be greatly appreciaciated!

If it is an auto and will idle in neutral but not in park check IAC (Idle air control) valve, located by the throttle body. Also read any codes from the ECM.

Thanks for the replytomb1269

I had my IAC valve changed and it seems to have done the trick. I was hoping to save some money by changing it my self but evey place I called would have to order it. So I dropped $150 for diagnostics,IAC valveand labor (5 min job)
The mechanic said he had changed multiple IAC valves on Rangers due to a plunger in theIACsticking open or shut.

Common on alot of the fords, the tell tale is with automatics. It stumbles and stalls in park and idles fine in all other gears. This is due to the fact (as I understand) that when in another gear than park the ECM takes engine speed from the TPS, Park is the only place that the IAC is used. It is different for manual tranys.
