Only happens in Drive ?

Only happens in Drive ?
1998 Ford Ranger
I shorted out the 12V accessory plug when taking the ac heater control out. I replaced the fuse and now the truck has some issues..
Truck starts and runs well for 2-3 minutes then --
1) speedometer stops working
2) windshield wipers stop working
3) overdrive stops working
All these problems go away when you shift back into Park or Neutral ??
These problems only happen in Drive?
This pattern repeats every time I drive this truck.
Scratching my head on this one ?? Help ?

Sounds to me like you may have a direct short between the gear shift and the fire wall. When you shift it's moving those wires or you have two bare wires touching.

Another point of view,
Suggest checking the grounds that complete the circuits for the instrument panel.
It could be when in drive the circuit ground becomes open possibly because of a poor ground connection which finds an alternate path when in park and neutral.
I would start with the ground from the battery to the body sheet metal.
