Default Ranger Performance

I just got a 96 ford ranger 4x4 with the 4.0 liter engine. and i was wondering what performance mods are worth doing. computer chips, exhaust, and anything else. Im looking for more power and increased gas mileage. currently i am only getting about 16mpg. any help would be greatly apreciated.

They also make a supercharger or a turbocharger for the 4.0 (can't remember which)
That and make sure it doesnt need a tune up (no offense intended)

Are you against projects like this? I'd like to know how it turns out . Had an aquantance at work who was all into up grading HP in his Ford Lightning. I think NOS is the cheapest eaistest up grade that can be done.

After looking on the the net-extenstivly- i have noticed that there isn't a whole lot of 'bolt on' parts
you have the exhaust-headers-the converter
you have the intake throttle body and throttle body spacer and chips
the cheaper stuff such as spark plug wires ignition and other various things
you have more extreme things like a turbo or a nos system
but is there anything more?
