Default stumped

I have an 83 2.8 litre v6 ranger. i recently moved to florida from massachusetts. for the first few days it ran great. suddenly i was driving along when i smelled a burning smell. i figured it was another vehichle. it was not. i then noticed i was emiting a very white colored smoke, though only temporarlily. then i would feel temporary losses of power and shake, at the same time my oil pressure would drop completely, but thenbothwould return to normal. the brakes also acted differently. suddenly the pedal would quite a ways bfore the brakes kicked in. after pumping them a few times they would also return to normal. after a little more driving, they would do the same thing. i already checked and there are no burnt or melted wires.i have plenty oil, transmission fluid, coolant and brake fluid. unfortunately i do not have a temp gauge. if anybody has any ideas at all, any help would be greatly appreciated.
