Default Tail Lights Out

Okay, this sounds dumb beyond words...but I can't figure out the &^%$& taillights on my 94 Ford Ranger. The tail lights, both of them, just stopped working. Sounds like fuse...but I can't find a fuse listed in the manual for the taillights! I checked all of the fuses and they all look good to me.

So bulbs right? How the heck do you get the tail light covers off? I pull out the two screws and something else is holding them in? I know this shuold not be this hard....any help appreciated.

If I remember my 93 I had, there was also a screw or bolt holding it in where the tailgate covers it. Open the tailgate and look at the side.

This might not be a fuse or bulbs. There's a mechanism on your brake pedal under the dash called the stop light switch. It costs about $15 to replace but is a little hard to get off due to space under your dash. I had a similar prob with my 98 not even a month ago. I replaced the stop light switch and all my brake lights work now. It's a small black plastic piece that sits directly on your brake pedal. Look for that. Mine was held on by a single pin and bolt.

techmanbd is right, you have to lower your tailgate to get to the last screw, mine was a broad, flatheaded screw just about in the middle.

I have been looking for the tail light fuse myself until this evening. It isn't listed in the diagram, how dumb?! Anyway, what I did was get a FUSE TESTER from Auto Zone and tested all the fuses. All my fuses were good.

My tail lights don't work but the brake lights do...don't they share the same bulb? Very confusing. Does anyone have any advise on how to solve this issue? I have already been pulled over for it....
