Default 1996 taurus key will not turn

Hey y'all I got a 1996 Ford Taurus and the other day I backed it out of my drive way and now the key will not move in any direction when I stick it in the ignition. The car is in "Park", no binding on the steering wheel, will not go to accessory. I have tried turning the wheel, jiggling the shifter and rocking the car with no luck. the key just will not turn. Can you help me out?

I can't remember it being like this before. If the cylinder is needed to be replaced how can break it loose to replace it?

By that point in time I think I would be using a pair of chanel locks around the collar of the tumbler.

After you bust the collar you'll be disappointed. But don't fret it. Under the column there are three phillips-head screw holes and one hole for the ignition release button. First, take the negative battery cable off. Then if you can - put the key in and turn it to run (or start and let go of the key-which is run). Now take a heavy duty paper clip - straighten it and push the button (through the hole beneath I just mentioned) and very carefully pull out the switch. Ifone of twoblack plastic pieces come out - don't lose them and if one stays in -for god's sake don't touch it. They need to be where they came from before the new switch. If the one stayed in then SUPER carefully slide the other in place over it without forcing it so as not to break the smaller one. IF you break the other one (which is very easy) then you may end up replacing it too. It can be rigged back in by slightly crushing the small ones' contact and correctly slipping it UNDER the back of the bigger ones' contact. Good Luck.
