1997 Ford Taurus SHO Secondary Air Pump
I am looking at a 1997 Ford Taurus SHO and I've been contacting the guy selling it. It has 177k miles on it and is pretty clean. The guy did tell me that it needs a new secondary air pump. Would this be a problem? He only wants $1800 and I can probably haggle him down a little bit. But other than that part the car is really nice looking and has a clean interior and engine bay. If it isn't too much of a problem then I could always do the work myself.
The secondary air injection pump is an electrically operated motor that sends fresh air into the exhaust manifolds on start up . It runs for only a short time. Is not that difficult to replace, but a lot of that depends on how mechanically inclined you might be.
If the car is what you want the pump replacement shouldn't be too difficult a job. Go for it!

I had an Idea that's what it was. I actually got them to lower the price to $1400 and the only other problem with the SHO is a small dent in the drivers side rear door.
