Default 1999 24 valve

Got a service engine soon light and the code said it was the EGR valve. I reset it and the light stayed off but I'm thinking about changing the valve anyway ..

Is it an easy job?

What was the excat code number? Most of the time the valve is not the problem. If it is a P0401 that usually is the DPFE or ports clogged under the valve.

Thanks for the reply -- I don't remember which code it was but now have another chance to get it because the light returned last night. The vehicle has had very little use (1999 with only 48 K miles)

A few more questions..
What is DPFE?
How do you check it?
How hard is it to remove the valve and clean the ports?

The code is more than likely a P0401. The DPFE Is the Delta Pressure Feedback EGR sensor. It takes the exhaust pressure and converts it to a reading the computer can read. Go to www.autozone.com and search the DPFE and it should tell how to rest it. The site is athe same information as Alldata, just a little less in depth. There is a picture below. The valve is straight forward removal. The ports are on the engine side. Good luck.
