1999 Ford Taurus SE Parking Brake Chime Mod
With the parking brake warning light in the far right hand side of the dash cluster and somewhat blocked by the gear shift handle, I sometimes (sometimes more than sometimes) forget to release the parking brake. I would like to modify the wiring so that the chime that sounds when the door is not shut also sounds when the parking brake is set. I am comfortable making minor to mid-range repairs and mods. The closest thing I could find on YouTube is how to do something like this on a Kubota tractor. Can someone point me in the right direction about how to do this on a 1999 Ford Taurus SE?
Thanks,
Robert

Fords don't like add on things, but this may solve the problem .
You can purchase just a beeper operated by 12 volts and tie that into the wire coming off the parking brake switch so that when the switch is closed to turn on the light it can also operate the beeper. One wire from the beeper would go to a good ground and the wire from the parking brake switch that sends power to the warning lamp could also send power to the other terminal of the beeper.
I am going to ask a curious question, Are you pressing the parking brake down hard enough to to any good because if you can move the vehicle with the parking brake applied it can't be doing much to hold the vehicle? Many states in their safety inspection will apply the parking brake and attempt to move the vehicle to insure it is fully functional.

I press the parking brake down as far as it will go. The brakes are a little soft when driving but not too bad. The parking brake may need some adjustment. I don't want to make the brakes any worse which is why I'm looking to have the chime.
