Default 2001 Taurus oil separator

Is it possible for an oil separator to go bad?
Where is it and how is it repaired?

Thank you.

It's usually located between the upper and lower intake manifolds and can be part of the lower one. What causes you to suspect it could be bad ?

My engine lite came on and some hoses were replaced because they were old and leaky, one came from the valve cover to the intake. My mechanic told me the separator has gone bad. I'm a HVAC mechanic and know what a oil separator is. I'm a bit leery.

thanks for the reply

I believe your suspicions are shall we say justified.
It sounds like the hose that was faulty was the hose to the PCV valve and if that hose has any cracks or holes the engine will run rough and not idle correctly. I have never heard of a separator "going bad". If it runs OK now, Happy Motoring !
Don't be shy to share your valuable experience in the HVAC field with us, Thanks.
