2004 Ford Taurus low oil light and won’t start sometimes
#5
well the thing is it starts after about 4 hours and runs just fine then you cut it off and it won’t start until the next 4 hours

About 2 weeks ago someone syphoned the gas we had in the tank then we put a locking gas cap on it and to tell you the truth that’s when the trouble started

So we understand exactly what is /is not happening.
When you say it won't start, what does it do if anything?
Starter does or does not crank the engine over ,but it just will not start running, or when you go to start it, it does nothing.
A little info here, what brought on the need for the different gas cap ?
Can we ask ,, when you purchased fuel did you always top it off until it wouldn't take anymore"?
Were you able to have your vehicle checked for codes in the vehicle computer ?
Wondering about the fuel pump driver module.
When you say it won't start, what does it do if anything?

I will throw this out and without proving it , it is only speculation.
As you will know, when we keep filling the gas tank until it will not take anymore we do bad things.
There is a vent valve to allow air containing gas vapors built up when fueling and running to be collected in a charcoal canister so they don't go out into the surrounding air..
When certain conditions are met, those vapors are taken into the engine and burned. That charcoal in the canister is intended to collect only gas vapors and not liquid which will destroy the canister function by sending charcoal granules into the lines to be burned and plugs them. The Purge valve gets full of this stuff and goes the way of the canister. So as you can see the can of worms is alive and well.
To verify and correct , if necessary, will require checking all of the system.
If I missed anything, please let's help this guy out, thanks.
