Arrow 98 Taurus power steering pump

I have a 1998 Ford Taurus. I fill the power steering pump with fluid, start the car, turn the wheel. When I shut the car off, the fluidstarts to come out through the breather hole in the cap. What would cause this?

It sounds like the level got low enough to pull in air . One way to get the air out is to have the wheels up off the ground and just keep turning the steering wheel end to end and the air eventually gets expelled. You have to keep a close eye on the level so it doesn't get low enough to pull in any more air. It can require a lot of cycles to get the air out.
