Unhappy 99 taurus duratec oil leak

Has anyone had any experience with oil leaks on the 3.0 duratec engines? I have a 99 with 110,000 miles on it that has an oil leak appearing to come from around the oil pan. I was wondering in anyone else has had this problem or any other oil leak that could explain oil in this area.

Were you able to confirm the leak is coming from the pan or could it be coming from somewhere higher up like the valve covers or intake manifold mtg?

Default oil leak

I need to look again to be more certain but it does appear to be coming from the gasket and it it definitely coming down the side of the oil pan with drops hanging from the pan. Have you had experience with leaks further up the engine?

The oil pan gasket will also swell and push out some and cause a leak. Check hankys suggestion first. It is an easier and cheaper fix.

Default oil leak

I took a good look with a flashlight and mirror today, it appears to be the oil pan leaking

I've done some research and will probably change the oil pan gasket when I get a good opportunity. I would guess the leak to be about a quart a month at this point.

I guess you might consider it a good opportunity when it reaches a quart a week. What do you think?

Default oil leak

Yeah, I hope it does'nt get that bad. I'll keep a close eye on the oil level and probably do it at the next oil change. Any tips on breaking the exhaust bolts loose? I'll probably try to soak them in some penetrating oil a few times and see if I can get the bolts to break loose before I try it. Is there any way around dropping the Y pipe? In the pictures I saw it looked like an oil pickup hung way down in the pan and would make it hard to manuveur the pan around the Y pipe.
