Default 99 taurus wiper motor

I have a 99 taurus and the drivers side wiper will only move a couple of inches and then back to the park position, passenger side works just fine. When the car is off you can physically move the driver side wiper to any position easily. Is the motor bad? Does anyone know how to replace the motor/

Thanks for your help

On the side that does not move correctly , first check the wiper arm attaching nut, pull off the plastic cover at the base of the wiper arm to see the nut. If that nut is tight, then you might have a wiper transmission problem. If the other side works normally, it's not the motor.

Thanks for the reply...

The nut is tight, however i can easily move the drivers side wiper back and forth along the window, while the passenger side wiper stays put and can't be moved unless the motor moves it. How can i confirm a wiper transmission problem? feel free to e-mail me at rklauk@gmail.com if you would like to talk off line.

I would pull that wiper arm off and see if the hole is worn out, it should tighten down onto the spline of the shaft. While you have the arm off, see if the shaft it mounts to can be turned by hand, that might be a clue to the transmission having a problem.

i took the arm off and it looks like the splines within the plastic hole of the wiper arm are completely worn down. The shaft on the wiper transmission also looks worn but works fine when turned on to the different speeds of the wiper. Looks like a new wiper arm is needed. I really appreciate your help.
