Default Cooling Fans 1996 Taurus

When Ac is on should cooling fans run continuously or do they shut on and off? Mine come on and off even with ac clutch still running. I know if AC is off, the engine reaches a certain temp the fans will come on and stay on until it reaches a certain temp. My car runs a little on the warm side while idling with no ac (needle goes to 3/4). Fans come on and kick off correctly to cool it off. It has never overheated. I had a spare CCRM and threw it on for the heck of it. Thermostat was changed. Fluid changed. I am well aware of problems associated with the cooling system on this model. I just need a quick tutorial on what should be happening. Thanx

I have observed the same functions on my '96 as well...As I'm due for a full radiator flush, I will have the mechanic check my T-stat, water pump, and all hoses/connections...The on/off cooling fan activity is normal, so that means they're in proper working order...
