my mechanic says me 1998 ford taurus se needs a cooling tube. what is this item he says its r usted and needs to be changed for big buks whats going on help help ehhhhh......

Look behind the engine and you will see some metal pipes connected to the hoses. I think this is what he is talking about. They actually are the heater hose assembly.

If you can isolate where it is leaking from, you can purchase the part yourself and replace it. We have had some of the crimped portions of the hose leak and cut the crimp off and replace with silicone heater hose. Cost is minimal that way. Just takes a little time and effort on your part. Or call and ask how much it will cost to repair. Since your mechanic knows ahere it is leaking, how much does he want to repair?

Hi:
I just joined and saw this post and wanted to share what it cost me for the tube at the dealer with a dicount.
The tube is mounted to the fire wall on my 02 Taurus and was rusted too bad to do anything with so the cost was worth it to me. $58.00 was my cost plus $60.00 to install.
