Default Engine rough when cold

Hello everyone. I'm new to this site...
We have a 2000 Taurus 3.0 24v DOHC with about 106k miles. Just recently the engine starting running really rough on start up when it's cold out. It will stall several times in the first few minutes IF I don't keep my foot on the gas. But when it warms up (within 5-10 minutes) it runs fine. Sometimes within this first few minutes I notice I step on the gas and it seems to take a few seconds for it to catch up only sometimes though. It had an evap system leak for awhile which I had reset awhile ago. But this new problem is NOT throwing a code. I changed the fuel filter and spark plugs a few thousand miles ago.
Please help!!!
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the Idle Air Control valve is starting to fail. The symptoms are classic for the sensor failing. Below is a generic picture.

It is possible Six. But if it were the TPS, it would do it all the time, not just when cold.

Thanks for the help so far... But why would neither of those options be throwing a code???

If the PCM sees a certain parameter of values, it will not trip a code. The IAC usually never puts a code out unless the wiring internally has shorted or broken. The Engine Coolant Temperature sensor could also be reading offa little and not allowing the PCM to deliver the right amount of fuel when the vehicle is cold.

Ok, so the check engine light came on and it's telling me both O2 sensors are bad. Are those easy to replace yourself? I honestly don't even know where to look to find them.

Post rough idle

Did you ever repair the rough idle problem?

I have something similar. NO codes set.
I have a 1998 DOHC motor and bought the Taurus new.
I have a rough idle in gear or when the AC is on.
I've replaced the plugs, wires and coil pack. Replaced the T.S.P. and
air control valve. I replaced all rubber vacuum lines and intake manifold gasket.
I still have the rough idle in gear. And still no codes set.
I keep thinking that it is something inside the transmission-range sensor, trans fluid sensor or turbine shaft speed snesor.

First, what are the actual codes? There are a lot of codes for the O2 sensors. Some are for bad sensors, and some are for other things that cause the engine to run too rich or too lean. Please post the exact codes back and we can help more.

Lex92. Have you had the MAF sensor checked? A dirty MAF can cause your problems. If it is not reading the correct air flow, the PCM could deliver the wrong amount of fuel.
