Steering Noise
Good Day All. I have a 2000 Taurus with 90K. It has started to make a noise when I turn. The sound is like when you are on a garage floor that has been tiled, painted or sealed concrete and the tires squeak. It occurs when I turn in either direction. However, it is louder when when I turn to the right. It occurs at low speeds (around a corner after a stop, in a parking lot and turning the wheels before moving). The power steering fluid looks good, free of debris and is at the proper level. Also, no vibration or wobble when turning. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

RE: Steering Noise
Sound like to me that the power steering pump or the belt is the culprit. The sound does become louder when turning because the pump is working to help the tires turn. Check the belt to make sure it's not loose or worn out. It could be possible that the pump is starting to make noise and may need to be changed.

RE: Steering Noise
Yeppers , I had one a few days ago ,, the guy had sprayed like a whole can of that --belt stop squeal on it,,,, Of course it didnt work ,,, my hands were dyed red , my wrenches stuck to everything,,, what a mess.. I had to use brakekleen to clean it off,,,,, The old belt was so hard an dried out that when I finally got it off it curled back up just like it was the car still ........
