Transmission Leak - Deluge
Today, we bought a 2000 Ford Taurus SE wagon. The car runs and drives great and the body is in very good condition. The problem is, we got four miles from the dealer's lot and the check engine light came on and the transmission started dumping fluid on the road. Not a leak, but a pouring of fluid. We took the car back to the dealer, per his instructions, and he is going to have his mechanic check it over tomorrow and we will decide where to go from there. My question is this; is this an uncommon occurence and once this is fixed it will be a good car, or should I walk away from this one?
That is not a common occurance. However, if the dealer fixes it, have them extend the 3 day right of recention so you can drive it a couple of days before deciding. If the car drove back to the dealer, the transmission is probably OK and should be fine.
