Windshield wipers do not work right on my 1997 Ford taurus.
Need help with my 1997 Ford taurus, 3.0 engine with over 137,000 miles.
My windshield wipers do not work when I turn them on sometimes or as I am driving they start working in the off setting then run for about 3 mins.
then stop then start every 10 to 15 mins. then run for about 3 mins. then stop every time I drive. I can not turn them off with the wiper control.
I have been troubleshooting the windshield wiper parts and electrical system wiring diagram with my 1997 Ford taurus Haynes auto repair manual. I have not been able to fix this.
What part should I replace that would cause this to happen ?
Thank you for your help.

You probably haven't considered this, but can you visit a place like Autozone and have the computer checked for any codes, namely body codes .
The Generic electronic module provides the ground for the washer wiper system.
If there are any codes put them up here and we will try to assist with a possible remedy.
There are three relays in the engine compartment fuse/relay box.
One for the washers, one for hi-lo operation and one for the park system.
If you have the owner's manual it should indicate which relays they are.
Depending on what happens when you remove any one of the relays may provide some direction.
Also, check all the ground connections under the hood starting at the negative battery terminal.. Something in a completely different circuit may be using the wipers for it's ground.
Let us know what you find.
