Default 1997 4.6 engine won't start until fan motor stops

PamperedPaula had this same problem. I think it may be the engine coolant sensor but need some advise or other people's input that may have resolved this issue. The car cranks fine but will not start until the electric radiator fan stops. This can take 3-5 minutes. Please respond here or at talktoschmidty@yahoo.com.

I can't believe nobody had this problem with a 97' Thunderbird with the 4.6 V8, or can help out. As I mentioned it first post, someone named PamperedPaula asked the question last year and apparently never resolved it, or never responded when she did resolve the issue. After going through checking the MAP, MAF, IAC, fuel pump and pressure at the rail, cleaning the throttle body, injectors, checking for vacuum leaks, etc. I've narrowed it down to the engine coolant sensor. However, I can't afford to just throw parts at my problem. I have both sensors out of the plastic intake manifold. I've since learned that one sensor controls the dash gauge and the other relays the (signal)voltage drop to the computer. It is a simple thermistor that changes resistance as the coolant temp rises. Does anyone know what the cold resistance should be(out of the car on the bench)? Or any other info that will help? Desperate. It is down to 20 degree days in Wisconsin so far and already too cold to sit and wait for the fan motor to stop before I can get my car running. If you know please respond to Tom at talktoschmidty@yahoo.com Thank you all.

Just saw your reply & I appreciate the info but not financially able to simply purchase a new computer. Truth be told, I'm an old school dog. I'd rather drive my old 55 Chevy with a 327 and carburetor. All of the computer controlled stuff is just organized confusion. It really took the shade tree mechanic away from working on his ride for electronic techs with a room full of scanners, oscilloscopes, & trial & error. Problem being, a dealership can R&R parts all day and put them right back on the shelf, we cant. So thanks anyway Scorchsc, but I'll find the part that failed eventually.
