97 ford thunderbird . 4.6 .when coming to a stop it shakes . And the rpms drop to 500 ..any ideas of what could cause this

Misfire.
There are tons of possible reasons.
Ignition parts: plugs, wires, coilpack.
dirty throttle body, stuck open EGR valve, and so on.

look for "rough idle" and see what people did to cure it.
