Default 1989 ford country squire 5.0 over heated died nowno start

Hello,
I have a 1989 country squire wagon. While driving down the freeway, the AC starts blowing hot air, so i turn on the heater but the heater hose slips out, car shuts off and dies. I tow it to the house, refill the radiator, check the belts, replace the heater hose, but now the car wont start. Engine light is on and check engine light is on. When i crank, it turns over but no run. I have spark and fuel pump buzzes on start up. I suspect the efi system is ok and the no start is related to the over heat some how. Can the computer block start until some code is cleared? I cannot trouble shoot with no run!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS. I live in CA so no extreme ambient conditions. And the impact switch in the luggage compartment is reset.

Certain codes dealing with ign or fuel systems can prevent a vehicle from starting.
Did the coolant leak all over the entire engine compartment?
If you can purchase a Haynes manual from any auto store and it should explain how to get the codes.
Things like the EGR valve stuck open could prevent starting. A large vacuum leak if a hose was damaged could also cause hard starting.
If the engine got really hot , a compression test would help to determine if any valves were burned. That could cause hard starting.
Codes, compression test and good visual check should help find the problem.
Did you look inside the distributor cap for moisture?

thanks for the response. Yes i did check the distributor, it had a boot over it and it was dry. I will do a compression test on it.. Off hand do you know that the red engine light usually means and how is it different from the check engine light?

That red engine light came on due to the overheat condition and there may now be a problem with the engine temp sensor.
The check engine light is supposed to come on and notify the driver of an emission problem.
On later year vehicles the check engine lite can also notify the driver of other problems like trans, cooling, fuel, ign etc.
