Default 1997 tarus transmission

automatic
dosen't want to shift to second gear. but it works in all the other gears. first gear works. to get out of first you must tac out the engine then it slams into second gear then all the rest of the gears work.

The possibilities for this problem is a list longer than a convict's rap sheet.
You might start with checking for any codes in the computer which could provide some direction.
When you say it works in all the other gears could you be a little more specific ?

Far be it for me to question Hanky, but are you trying to say that second gear is just not availible or that it misses second (slips through it) then has 3rd or 4th? Or just stays in first and won't go any faster then about 40 wound out? Try to be specific. I know Hanky always gets it right, but I'm pretty stupid, so I need a little more info. Thanks!

Boy, I wish I was half as good as you think I might be. I'm way back in the end of the line. You probably pulled more transmissions, and repaired them , than I saw. I'm glad you joined with this one too! Your expertise will save this gent a lot of trouble. Maybe I might be able to offer a suggestion or two, but the experience you have will solve this problem without a doubt.
