Red face 2001 Ford 150 Front Suspension

Dear Ford Forum Tech Department:

My sister and I inherited the family 2001 Ford 150 Lariat. My parents gave it to us for being the caregivers. It was such a beautiful truck when it was first brought home.
Now, it's a shame how it looks and runs. I put aside one thousand dollars to fix the mechanics. Next I'll do the exterior. I have found someone on Craigslist because it more affordable than Ford's Center in town. I want to double check and make sure the CraigsList Guy I found is doing the job, at least halfway. People have left notes on our truck, asking to buy her, but it is the family truck and I am going to keep her, no matter what. Besides, there is nothing like a Ford truck, they are so cool and American.

Here is my question. What should I get done on the front area, I know a wheel alignment for sure, but should I get new shocks and struts, are they the same thing? Please help me, on what I should get done besides a wheel alignment to the front end area..for example..Shocks, and what else..bearings? Thank you so much for everyone's help. I wish I was a man so I can fix the truck the right way. Oh yea! if the brake fluid is changed..I need to make sure it gets bleed?

Aloha and thank you.
Cindy

A front end inspection is done prior to aligning it. You then will know what needs to be done on the front end.Yes, the brakes will need bleeding if the fluid is changed. If the brakes are functioning, I would not address brake fluid at this time.It is something that is overdone and a good money maker at repair shops. There are many other brake items which give issues more often than the fluid.

Dear Raski:

Thank you so much for you advise. I have to get that truck in running condition and I am not sure what part of the front suspension to do first, without taking it to an expensive mechanic. I have someone maybe on Craigs List. I hope he is good.

But your advise gives me some hope.

Thank you again and have a nice evening.

Sincerely,
Maxion Sisters

Bad idea. I would not go that route.Anyone who is good is not going to be advertising their "talents" on Craigslist. Seek out a good shop local to you.
