Hey folks , on a EFI whats the difff in a 86 HO an a NON HO, I know theres diff fuel inj , cam timing diff. an now part 2--- I have a rebuilt 5.0 non HO . I need to put in acar that had a HO motor, will the HO computer work with this engine or not , do I have to change sensors , will the HO computer over fuel the non Ho ? , will it fry something if I hook it up ???? thanks in advance for ANY assistance,,,,,,,,,,,,..

 

If i'm not mistaken, the big difference other than those you mentioned is that the heads (And specifically the valves) are different. you will probably need to make some change to the computer. The HO i believe had 24? pound injector where the regular had 19? Lb. If anything, the computer will probably under fuel your motor if you are using smaller injectors with the same pulse width. However, it is entirely possible that the neccesary fuel trim adjustments will be made automatically from the O2 sensor readings and and the fact that your motor is probably equipped with a mass air sensor rather than a MAP sensor. i would personally drop it in using the existing computer and then see if changes need to be made from there. morning , thanks for the reply, yea did some checking on those inj , as u said the NON HO has the 19 lbs an the HO I have has the 30 lbs Inj. wasnt sure what would be the out come if I traded inj , would think it should wind that girl up, but not sure that the NON HO motor could handle that much fuel , Now on the Mass air flow / Map yep both Motors had a Map , wished it had the Mass Air , I think it helps a great deal.Well I should know more by this eveing , Thanks again
