Default 99 f250 v10 loss of forward gears

I have a 99 f250 v10 super duty. I was pulling someone out of the ditch after a snowstorm, had 4wd engaged, had in 1st. Started pulling and all of a sudden wouldn't go forward anymore, in drive 1st or 2nd. Will go in reverse just fine. transmission was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago. Truck has 170k miles on it. Fluid is right level and does not smell burnt. The o/d light has recently started blinking prior to this this happening, maybe if it has anything to do with it. This is my daily driver, I've never owned or driven anything other than fords, and I'm almost 30 years old. if anyone has any ideas or advice, anything would be greatly appreciated

When the overdrive light starts blinking it is telling you there is a problem either with the trans or its controls.

Could that have anything to do with it losing the forward gears? If so, where would be the best place to start looking

You might try getting any codes from the vehicle's PCM (computer). If you cannot get any forward movement in any gear selector position , There could be a problem with the forward clutch inside the trans.

Is the forward clutch something that would require a require a tranny replacement or something that might be repairable? Which would be more cost effective? I'm stuck a ways from the nearest town so it may be a couple days before I can run any codes.

The trans would have to be removed and opened up to confirm.
The rebuild should have lasted more than 15,000 miles. You can wreck a good trans ,but it takes a lot. I suspect something went wrong with the rebuild. Try that avenue first. If you plan on keeping the vehicle for a few years and work it some, I would suggest replacing the trans with a "Ford Remanufactured Trans". Who ever does the replacing has to tell the place the truck is used to plow etc and the trans is assembled accordingly. Extra pieces go into a heavy duty trans.
