Default Engine keeps cutting out when slowing down

I have a late 90s Ford Escort 1.8 Ghia which keeps cutting out when slowing at junctions, The processor unit has been tested and is ok - any ideas as to what fault may be????

Check the IAC motor on the side of the throttle plate sometimes they have a tendence to get carbon in them and not let them funcation properly. Also may want to put a scanner on it to check for codes and also check the engine coolant sensor that tells the computer what the temp of the engine is if its showing cold then it could be flooding the engine sort of like a choke not opening up.

I have just bought a late 1996 escort cabrio that is doing exactly the same thing. I also know of two other owners with same problem. As you slow down, (not always) the revs just die, you lose power steering and brake servo (obviously). When you restart quickly you then kangaroo down the street for a bit, engine jumping about, a bit like fuel problem. If on the other hand you dont restart immediately and wait a bit, it runs fine with no jumping.

I was hoping that the control unit would be the answer, not hand it checked yet - but now after reading your other reply, Im getting worried?

Will let you know how things go if I find a solution

maureen and mark,
Truckpuller gave you good advice, idle control motor can get gummed up and cause that problem. As for you restarting the engine as you slow down, the kangarooing you might be feeling could be caused by the brake booster as it uses vac from the engine. The brake booster is pumping air into the engine throwing off the IAC even more. Try removeing it and cleaning it with some carb cleaner
