Default Escape Ignition housing

Does anyone know the function of the little depressable plastic pin under the lock cylinder in the ignition assembly? I replaced the switch and it still only starts randomly. Took the pin OUT and it is starting every time. Thx!

If you're talking about the pin I think you are, it holds the lock cyl in place. Is that the pin you mean?
