Default explorer overheating

I have a 1997 ford explorer that keeps overheating on me. It runs hot for about the first two miles and then the temp comes back down. Even after it comes back down though, I have to keep the heat on or it will overheat again. As soon as I turn the heat off it begins to overheat again. Does anyone know what causes this. Thanks.

Sound's like the thermostat is getting stuck.

Thermostat is probably it, but check the fluid level and the fan, too.
