Ford Explorer A/C, blinker, and warning light problems
Hi,
I have a 2010 Ford Explorer Xlt. I have a couple problems that have arisen. I would like to try to fix them on my own especially with time on my hands right now.
1) My right rear blinker isn’t currently working. I replaced the light bulb and had no luck.
2) The a/c is only blasting at max (4). I have settings 1, 2, 3 on the switch and all of them don’t work.
3) My car only blows a/c, the temperature doesn’t change to warm.
4) Whenever I go over 40 mph I get a wrench light turn on on my dashboard. I’ve learned to ignore this, but is this normal? Should I not be driving on the freeway?
1 - Does the right rear marker/park light work? Check the socket that the bulb plugs into, the electrical tabs can wear out and break.
Its a two filament bulb, the marker/park light is one filament and the brake/turn light is the other, they do share a ground though. To check at the plug, apply the brakes, remove the bulb and socket, put a voltmeter on pins 1 and 3. Let us know what you find for further diag.
For concerns 2 & 3 do you have manual climate control or automatic climate control? To differentiate the manual AC has only one temp adjuster, the auto AC has different driver and pass temp adjuster.
What I have below is based on the manual AC.
2 - Sounds like the AC blower resister is bad, I can give you wiring diagrams so you can do diag before replacing anything but considering the part is less then $20 aftermarket I would just replace it if it was my vehicle. Here is the blower motor resister location marked as item 4, the first picture is the 4x4 module that must be removed to access the resister.
3 - Do you hear a faint clicking noise in the dash when you try to change temp? If so replace the blend door actuator. If you do not hear clicking, physically check the blend door actuator, remove the trim panel in the directions below and put a hand on the actuator, change the AC temp from one extreme to the other extreme, you are feeling for movement in the actuator to see if it is getting the signal to change temp. Let us know what you find.
Removal and Installation
Remove the LH floor console finish panel.
Position the in-vehicle temperature sensor aspirator hose away from the LH temperature blend door actuator.
Remove the 3 LH temperature blend door actuator screws.
Disconnect the LH temperature blend door actuator electrical connector.
Remove the LH temperature blend door actuator.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
4 - You should pull the codes and list what is there, please dont list the description just the code such as P0300. Does the vehicle drive differently when the wrench light is on?
No it is not normal for a warning light to be on.
