can anyone help with an issue with a 2010 (facelift, euro 5) mondeo 2.0 tdci

car keeps bringing up fault code P0219 (engine overspeed) yet the engine has never been over 2500RPM when the fault occurs (engine cuts out, power steering goes, etc)

the car never cuts out when accelerating only when slowing down and seems to be worse on wet days. if i run for maybe an hour in the car, park it up for a couple of hours, then go out in it again, the engine light disappears and the car runs perfectly. next day (car is parked outside) i get in to go to work, couple of miles and lift my foot of the accelerator to 'coast' down a hill to avoid speeding, and the yellow engine check light is back and the engine cuts out. restarts perfectly every time, but is VERY annoying!

From what you describe it seems the problem is temperature related. Does it always take place when warm , in gear and decelerating? The better way to diagnose this type problem would be to use a scan tool to observe what the freeze frame info shows. At this point it sounds like a poor connection that opens up when warm . You might try carefully removing plug connections and reinstalling them to eliminate some of the possibilities. There have been instances where the PCM when heated would lose certain functions and needed to be replaced.
Has the fuel filter recently been replaced and the problem presented itself shortly after?
