Default I have a question for y'all

Howdy all, I am working on this 96 f150 and it's a 4x4 with the 5 speed manual transmission but my question is how hard is it to take one out of a 4x2 and make it 4x4 ? Besides the obvious reasons what I am asking is if I could take the mount and output shaft housing off and swap it out with the tail shaft housing and transfer case off of the one that I am trying to fix would it bolt up and work the same as it should or is it more complicated than that?

Yeah I found that out already and the difference is the length. The 4x2 main shaft is a half inch longer than the 4x4. Now that I know this all I can do is try and swap the reverse and fifth dear synchronizer hubs and hope that fixes the problem with it not going into overdrive at any speed
