Default Issue with code P2458 with Focus TDCi

Hi, please help.

I have purchased a Ford Focus TDCi econetic in the last 2 weeks.

Yesterday the engine malfunction warning came on my dash.

Following a diognostics by my local garage, they have confirmed the code P2458 DPF regeneration duration.

His advice was to self regenerate but call the dealer I purchased the vehilce from.

Can someone please advise 1) what P2458 DPF regeneration duration actually means, 2) advise on correction and 3) wether my dealer should pay for any work.

This car is a 2009 plate with 90,000 on the clock.

Thanks

I doubt there is any warranty coverage after all those miles. Since you just recently purchased it from the dealer it should have come with some kind of warranty.
The regeneration cycle involves burning off deposits in the diesel particulate filter assy.
After a certain time /mileage the system is supposed to go through an automatic cleaning cycle , known as regeneration. Is the diesel exhaust fluid used there and in need of replacement?
I think you received good advice when suggested taking it back to the dealer and see what they say.

Many thanks, from what I have read, you may be right. My big concern is that I beleive a seperate warning light should come up if the exhaust fluid needs topping up. This makes me fear a new filter may be required.

I have a full service record but the fluid change is'nt shown on the service report?
