Odd ignition question
Hi,
I have an '08 Mustang GT and a 2010 Edge. Presently, I will be acquiring a 2013 Fiesta. That's THREE Ford cars.
It's going to drive me crazy to have THREE similar-looking keys (even though I know the Fiesta might use a transponder key).
Question: Is there ANY WAY I can get ONE KEY to rule them all? Is there any way to replace and/or augment the starter chain so that I can have ONE key or transponder to start ALL THREE VEHICLES?
Thanks,
Hal

I think you're asking for trouble if you want one master key for all three cars but, you will need to have each one of the tumblers changed to one key. and if each car uses a different transponder then you're going to have a bunch of trouble and that gets way too expensive the best way to keep from doing that is to mark each key that way you know what key goes to each car
It is conceivable to get the Feista key to POSSIBLY work in the Edge, all of which depends on the options (RFA actuator, TPMS among others), but I'm right sure the remote start will probably not work; the frequencies are different on the cars. I just took the advanced networks and mulitplexing webcourse (which will be followed next year by a classroom class that will superseed my old 3 day Electronics course I took forever ago). I believe the various modules across the networks are different; to wit, the Explorer (edge-ish) and Feista were the cars taught about.
Beware anyone reading this; the new cars are going NUTS with electronics; the new 2013 Fusion will have up to 5 different networks with many, many modules. If you think PATS is bad, try diagnosing an ICAN (infotainment network) problem with Mytouch. Also, some of the new networks have a network controller module that will controll the flow of info.
IT's going to get bumpy, so buckle up!

I didn't want to go into some of the problems that today's cars have with all the new electronics in them. But greasemark , those of us who try to repair them are going to have our hands full. Can you imagine your wife's keys to your car , being too close to the car when parked in the garage causing the modules to keep waking up from sleep mode and draining the battery and yet when you take it to the shop they can't find anything wrong because they didn't know the transponder was that close at home.
It's getting really hairy with the new stuff they are coming out with and it's gonna be tough to even diagnose some of them.
