Default Oil Pressure guage

HI. I'm new to the forum an have a question about my 2000 F 150 4x4. I have a 4.6 motor and when we purchased the truck used about 4 yrs ago, the first winter I noticed something that at first, almost gave my a heartattack. When I started up my truck I had no oil pressure. I quickly shut it down and checked my oil. It was ok, then I checked under the truck, I don't know why, I just did. Anyway I started it up again and it still didn't show any pressure. I accelerated and the guage went up to normal. The next time it did it I just let it warm up and the guage would start working. It only did this when the truck sat outside, an in the winter. This went on for about 4yrs, and I just didn't fix it because it was always full of oil. Now 4yrs later an a ton of miles it wants to do it every time you start it up in the morning. Does anyone have a suggestion to what it might be? I know I should of had it looked at a long time ago, but I didn't. So now I need your help.

Default RE: Oil Pressure guage

Most likely just the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge. My brother's '92 F-150 does the same thing. It shows little to no oil pressure, but the truck just keeps going (245,000+ miles).
Personally, I dont think I would worry about it all that much. If its been 4 years and the motor hasnt blown yet, I doubt the oil pump is failing.
