Rough Running '61 Falcon
My name is Jaynes and I have a 1961 Ford Falcon. I took my car into my mechanic for an engine overhaul and a transmission rebuild. When I got it back it was running really rough and 'trailer hitching' or missing or whatever you wanna call it. It was in fact running worse than when I took it in. Long story short my mechanic says he fixed it, but he didn't. So, I took it to another shop I had used in the past and they tuned the carb over and over but it is still trailer hitching. No one is really sure what the problem is. The compression test comes back with positive results. They regapped the spark plugs, too. Nothing. Anyone have any idea what could be up? Where do I turn next? Thanks.

Old cars use points ignition. If you haven't upgraded to electronic by now, try adjusting the points. Also possible NoX box isn't hooked up right, if you have one.
Motorboating, detonation can be caused by carbon in the firing chambers because it stays hot and ignites leftover fuel. Any other problem or mistake that causes a lean condition can also increase chamber temps, igniting fuel, like vacuum leaks. I'm not by any means are carburator person. I know basically squat about them but I've heard that float level can sometimes cause it. Also like TechmanBD says, ignition timing is a possibilty.
