Default SES light

I recently bought an 89 Econoline van with the 300 ci 6. The ses light is on so I scaned it and it was an EGR code.Sorry,I dont remember the number of the codes. Is there anything in particular that these are notorious for,EGR wise? The weather has been cold and rainy and I aint had time to work on it much.

The other issue I have is the timing. I hooked up my timing light and there is no mark to be found on the balancer. It has to be close or it would not run. I dont feel like doing the whole TDC thing to put a mark on there.Am I missing something?

Sorry we let you down..... Glad you got'r fixed.....

The timing mark is a 'faint' line on the balancer.. You may have to have a look under the truck as you turn it over to spot it.. Harder to spot if rusted/painted heavy.. Make sure you pull the spout connector when setting base timing..

I did lay under the van and turn it around by hand.I never seen anything. The balancer is clean to.I guess I need to look again and scrub it off with a wire brush as I go.
