Default Is it time for oil change/filter?

Hello. I have a 2016 Ford Fusion SE FWD, 4 cylinders.

Last oil change was on 10/13/21 at 36,974.

Today it is at 38,615.9 and shows 41% oil life.

Almost all my miles driven were not on highways.

I always go to my local Ford because my uncle works there and he does the oil change. They use Motorcraft® motor oil.

What other maintenance do I need to be checking for?

You are still good. Take it to 4k miles. Any 10+ mile run will burn off any condensation in the oil if its even present. You can if you want get an analysis on the oil. That will give you an idea for future oil changes. I don't have a lot of faith on oil monitors.

Are you sure? I thought it’s 3k or 5 months? Whichever comes first.

If you want to play it safe, suggest you check what it recommends in your vehicle owner's manual.

If you want to follow the manual, it says change oil when the OLM reaches 10%. The manual also states normal driving 7500-10000 miles, severe 5000-7500 miles, extreme 3000-5000 miles. Extreme is pulling a trailor.Time period is not mentioned. I don't change oil on a time basis, only mileage. 3000 miles may have applied to much older vehicles but doesn't apply to the newer, better running engines using much better oil than even six years ago.

Why does Ford recommend 3k and/or 5 months, whichever comes first?

I looked it up in your manual. Just change it and not lose any further sleep over a simple oil change..You already have your mind made up.

So the manual has no time? Does oil go back after a while?

Oil life says 25%. Last oil change was 9 months ago but I am ahead few hundred miles from reaching 3,000. I hope I have not waited too long? My concern was the 9 months part.

I read that it’s good to change every 6 months regardless of miles driven?
