Transit 2.5 turbo diesel engine
Hi everyone this is my first posting and, sorry, it is for help or advice.
I have the Ford 2.5 turbo diesel engine which up untill recently ran very sweetly. However the engine management light has started coming on and the engine will then only run at half revs, which is a safety feature, to let you get home or to a garage. The thing that is worrying me is that the dipstick holder started rattling and when I checked the dipstick it had been chewed up and broken. What could cause this? The engine runs ok until the light comes on. Surely if there was a loose mainbearing holder or broken conrod the engine would not run smoothly at any time. Is there something else in the sump that could have come loose and caused the damage?

Howdy;John, Well thats not good the ole girl acting up , On the dipstick thing several times I have across this , For some reason the Guy was pulling an installing the dipstick, With the Engine Running -- Says thats what he was told to do. Told him thats only on the Tranny [>:], Another time We had a customer vechile in , My new guy was doing a service an came got me , Saying he couldnt get the oil to drain ????? , Well sure enough there was a main brg bolt blocking the drain hole, The engine was running FINE , Wasnt the least bit rough running , No loss of oil pressure. We pulled the pan an sure enough the middle Main cap had one bolt broken an appers the other had backed off an fell in the pan with the CAP. Luckily there was no damage at all , The Engine had like 76,000 miles, 4 cyl ranger, We put it back together , He kept it another 3 yrs before he traded it in . On the lite , Iam not real familar with the lil diesel's So I cant help you there , Prehaps Another Board Member can ?
